NO SATURDAY WORK
WARNING TO TRADESMEN No tradesman who works a five-day week under, the 40-hour week provi* sion may undertake work at his trade on his own account on Saturdays, according to a warning issued by tha Minister of Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong)' yesterday. .-'■ . The Minister said that complaints had been made to him by employers that tradesmen, such as plumbers, were doing work on their own account on Saturday mornings. By such actions they were taking unfair advantage of their employers, who had been compelled to restore the wage puts and pay for Ave days' work at a wage equivalent to that of five and a half days. . , , . ■ ■4 ■ Although expressing doubts as to whether the complaints were justified, Mr. Armstrong said steps would be taken to prevent anything of the kind. Government servants were included in the complaints, and would be treated the same in regard to Saturday work as the employees of private concerns.
