SINGAPORE STRIKES
CHINESE GIVE TROUBLE SINGAPORE, September 18. Minor strikes among Chinese building workers and. pineapple factory workers during the week resulted yesterday in a demonstration in the centre of the city. Police charged with batons and the Are brigade turned on a hose. More strikes occurred this afternoon. Over 2000 labourers at the R.A.F. base joined the strikers/who are demanding more pay for less work, and the formation of a union.
