BLAIR ATHOL SOUND

BRENTLIGHT RETURNS GERALDINE MAIDENS (Special from "Irvington.") ■ ■ CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Blair Athol lias been kept in quiet work since; ■■ the August Meeting, at which he failed to live up to expectations, 1 and he is now being moved along more strongly with a view to racing him at the Methven Meeting early next month. He looks more sound now than he did at the beginning of the season and most people are confident that he will redeem himself at an early date. V. Alborn has recommissioned Brentlight, who, over two seasons ago, was one of the most consistent pertormers in the. middle classes. Only, a pony, he won races both in Canterbury and in the Auckland Province, and he was an exceptionally smart pacer for one of his inches, probably the best we have had. However, while-he will re,ceive liberal concessions on his 1934-35 I assessments of 2min 13sec, 2min 47sec, , and 4min 33sec .over the various dis- ! tances, his prospects of returning to form do not appeal. Chancellor has been doing duty as a I hack at Riccarton for some months, butrhe was noticed back in F. C. Dunlevey's team last week. The change has given him a more solid appearance., Since his win at Wellington last week old Kingcraft has been lame, but it is not considered serious, and he should be back in work again within a" few days. Far from robust last season, when he won two races, Chateau is building up well since he returned to work. Whether he' will retain, his 'condition when raced is doubtful; but at the moment he looks really well. *The three-year-old filly by Jack Potts from Eileen Dillon has been named Acuity. As an early two-year-old she showed great promise, but has yet to para'de in public. STAMINA DOUBTED. Self has made good headway since he came back to Addington, and it will not be long before licit ready to go to the races. At times bt has shaped badly, but on the whole his form, has been good. Stamina does not appear to be his strong point, however. , G. S. Smith has made ah,other start on the three-year-old filly by Jack Potts from Erin's Lynn. She" has plenty of quality, and has an attractive style ol moving, but she has had an interrupted preparation. After being kept in useful work all the winter, Radley recently developed lameness, and it has been found necessary to turn him out. It is doubtful whether he will be persevered with .again. ■ ■: Becky Direct's showing at Geraldine next week will be watched with interest 5 . Last seasorj as a two-year-old she displayed speed without stamina, and she is expected to be a smart juvenile, although it may yet be some time before she reaches her best. While not big, Tim Worthy has grown into an attractive three-year-old,' and there are few better pacers in commission.' Last season he was inclined to unruliness, and he may still carry that trait, but once he settles down to: racing he will soon 'make hi» mark. It is expected that he will parade at Geraldine next week. Explosion, after a long spell from racing, has been put back in work to be prepared for the Addington November, Meeting, when he will find the classes in his favour. His inability to; begin quickly has been his greatest handicap in Canterbury, but with a shortage of first-class trotters he is not without:prospects. „■ ' . . An interesting nomination for the Geraldine Racing Club's Meeting next Thursday is Toorak, a three-year*old colt by Wrack from a Sungodmare. He has 'been well cared for and given every opportunity to develop. This wi,ll be his first race, although he has been in work, off and on, for over 12 months.' Toorak has grown into a fine colt, and, in the little seen of him. at Addington he gave every indication of, proving well worth the time he has taken, being'sensible, and a good pacer. He' claims, an l engagement in the New Zealand Champion \ Stakes (Ashburton). . •■-. '
