MARRIAGES IN N.S.W.
RECORD FOR SIX MONTHS' PERIOD (Received September 18, 10.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The number of marriages in New South Wales during the six months ended June 30, 11,511, was the highest on record for a half-yearly period. The number of marriages in Victoria, reported yesterday, was smaller than in New. South Wales, but the proportion to population was greater. A Melbourne cable yesterday stated that the number of marriages in Victoria in the six months ended June 30, namely 8224, was the highest on record. The Government Statistician said that the improvement on the corresponding period last year, when the number was 7717, was probably due to the revival of industry and the better financial outlook throughout Australia.
