THE DUTCH FAIR

The Dutch Fair, which is being held in the .Town Hall in aid of the Wellington City Mission, continues to attract] good attendances. Yesterday afternoon good trade; was done at a jumble sale, and the lecture on "Mothercraft" by Nurse Vida McLean was much appreciated. The following are the results of competitions held:—Most original article made from a sugar bag, Miss Soundy, Palrnerston North. Most original article made from material costing less than 2s 6d: Mrs, Townsley (back towel), costing 10£ d, 1; and Mrs. Smith (decorated bottle), 2. Most original,bouquet: Miss Whyte. Original drawing by woman: Miss D. Parmen ter. Drawing by girl (14-16): Miss Marjorie Stent, Carterton. Drawing by boy (12-14): Jack March. This afternoon a cooking competition under the direction of Mrs. Cole is.being held. The judge is Miss Una Carter, demonstrator for the Wellington Gas Company. The main attraction tonight will"be a display of wrestling, commencing at 8 o'clock. In addition,-a bright musical programme will be supplied by the Artillery Band. Tomorrow is the last day of the fair, which will conclude with the children's grand fancy dress party'at 3 o'clock and an excellent variety programme at 8 o'clock. Contributing artists include Miss Heather Wright in acrobatic, eccentric, and tap dances, Miss Oates's pupils in an exhibition of clog dancing, and Mr. Dan Hopah, Maori tenor, in characteristic songs. A strong appeal is being sent out for those who have not yet visited the fair to do so during these last two nights,and assist the funds of the Wellington City Mission.
