| HUTT VAULEY CHAMPIONS TROPHIES PRESENTED The Hutt Valley Table Tennis SubAssociation's annual championship tournament. was concluded, last night in the presence of approximately: 150 spectators, who witnessed the finals of all events, many of which provided some really thralling exhibitions of < the game. During the evening an exhibition match between Mr. Cheal, of Auckland, who is a former New Zealand champion, and H. Pyle, of Wellington, provided the crowd with a sample of what might be expected of the Auckland players at the New Zealand championships next week. At the conclusion of the matches Mr. Marshall, president of.the association, congratulated the management commit-, tee upon the very fine manner in which they.had conducted their, tournaments, and also spoke of the improvement in the standard of play in the Valley. ; Mr. Scholefleld, Mayor of Petone, also praised the • exhibitions of table tennis he had witnessed, and said it gave him every satisfaction to have the honour of presenting the trophies. Among the many others present, were Mr.. T. S. Williams, sole selector of the Wellington Table Tennis Association, who informed the secretary that ho had chosen Miss K. Tustin and Miss B. Strang, winner and runnerup of the ladies' singles, to represent Wellington against Auckland. The final results of the various events are as follows: Men's Singles.—Second grade: A. Wright beat H. Taylor, 21-10, 21-16. Men's Doubles.—Second grade: Croudis and King beat Mitchell and Steere, 21-12, 21-9. Ladies* Singles (holder, Mrs. Brennan).—Final: Miss K. Tustin beat Miss B. Strang, 16-21, 21-16, 23-21. Ladies' Doubles (holders, Misses Tustin and Walsh).—Misses K. Tustin and M. Walsh beat Misses B. Strang and A. Wendon, 21-19, 21-19. Mixed Doubles (holders. Ridler and MissTustin).—E. Hughes (St. Ronan's) and Miss K. Tustin (Taita) beat H. Kennedy and Miss Sturrock (Wellington), 18-21, 21-9, 21-12. MEN'S OPEN EVENTS.
Doubles (holders, Ridler and Martin).—G. Bell and H. Pyle beat H. Kennedy and C. Williams, 14-21, 21-12, 21-15.
Singles (holder, K. B. Longmore).— G. Bell beat K. B. Longmore, 12-21, 21-12. 23-21.
