PRICE OF PETROL EXEMPTION TO BE SOUGHT A letter was received from fti# Dunedin Fire Board at the monthlf meeting of the Wellington Fire Boar/ •today asking that support be accorded representations to the Minister ol Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) for exemption from the new regulations in regard to the price of petrol. It was understood that Government Departments were exempt from the regulations, and it was hoped that fire boards might receivo similar consideration. The board decided to support the representations. In reply to a request from residents of Melrose for the installation of street alarms in their district,.it was stated that the whole matter of street alarms would be considered next year on the completion of the new central ftre S during last month there were 29 actual fires, of which 18 were property outbreaks, 6 chimney fires, and 5 gorse. grass,* and rubbish fires. There wer« 26 false alarms, of which 17 were justifiable and 9 malicious. ■ . . ■
