At Oxhey in the British professional golfers' match-play championship firstround matches resulted: —A. H. Padgham (holder) beat WiUiams, 7 and 6; R. A. Whitcombe beat Lane, 1 up; Lacey beat Branch, 2 and 1; E. R. Whitcombe beat I>avies, 3 and 2; Havers beat Hooker, 2 up; Alliss beat Bright, 5 and 3; C. A. Whitcombe beat Large, 4 and 3; Cox beat T. Perry; 4 and 3; Cotton beat Adams at the twentieth; C. Ezar beat Sam King, 3 and 2.

Cotton and Adams had a terrific fight. Cotton was out in 34 to stand 2 up, but Adams squared the game at the sixteenth. He overdrove the green at the twentieth, Cotton winning with a 4 against a 5. Ezar is the first American ever to compete in this tournament.
