RUGBY, September 15. Sir Kingsley Wood, Minister of Health, speaking today at Plymouth on the problem of nutrition, said that the consumption of food of all kinds in the United Kingdom had grown considerably. Today it was probably over 25,000,000 tons yearly. The consumption of eggs, fruit, vegetables, and other products so important to good nutrition had greatly increased. Undoubtedly there had been at the same time a considerable improvement in food standards. This ' had been achieved generally by the health authorities and their professional advisers. Sixty years ago some 15,000 samples only were submitted annually to • public analysts, and over 19 psr cent, were found to be adulterated or not up to standard. Last year over 143,000 , samples were submitted—the highest on record—and the percentage adulterated or not up to standard was only a little over 5 per cent.
