A SCENIC DRIVE
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Auckland has been offered by the Government a subsidy of £78,500 to start within the next few weeks a scenic drive in the Waitakeres to be called "Coronation Drive." Bravo beautiful Auckland! How about beautiful Wellington getting a similar subsidy from the Government for a scenic | drive? Surely our city, which has so few, needs these drives too! Our views are picturesque and beautiful beyond words, but so few are available to any but hikers. We hope to have visitors from all parts to the great Exhibition in 1940. They will expect easy and pleasant facilities for: viewing the panoramic beauties of our city and suburbs. I suggest that Mount Johnston, Karori,' the acquisition of which is now under consideration, offers great possibilities. A glorious scenic drive opened at the same time as the centenary celebrations would be worthy of the capital city.—l am, etc., CENTENARY DRIVE.
