SCHOOL FLOORS

USE OF LINOLEUM

REQUEST FROM NGAIO

As the result of the wide publicity given by the Press to the discussion at the previous meeting on the desirability of suitably covering school floors with linoleum, stated Mr. J. JClark at yesterday's meeting of the Wellington Education Board, quite a number of letters had come in from school committees complimenting the board on its efforts in this connection. In one instance, that of the Ngaio School committee, a letter had been received requesting the board to supply linoleum to cover all the flooring at the Abbott Road School, the school committee undertaking to hold itseli responsible for half the cost up to £50. ■On the motion of Mr. Clark, the sponsor of the movement to cover the floors and corridors of schools, it was decided to make application to the Education Department for a grant for the Ngaio School, pointing out to the Department the willingness of the school committee to find up to £50 for the work.' The chairman (Mr. W. V. Dyer) mentioned that in company with the secretary (Mr. W. I. Deavoll) he had recently seen the Education Department's architect, Mr. R. Savage, and Mr. Savage had said that the Department was prepared to cover the upstairs corridor of the new Clyde Quay School for a width of 6ft. This work was now being put in hand, and should result in a distinct improvement. Mr. Clark: Very good.
