"GREAT DEAL TO LEARN"
NEW ZEALAND HOTELS
PREPARATION OF FOOD
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
ROTORUA, September 16,
j The opinion that New Zealand hotels had a great deal to learn in the preparation of food was expressed by Signor Carreras, husband of the international dancer La Meri, in an interview here today. Signor Carreras was not complimentary on the subject of New Zealand hotels, stating that in many small details, but particularly in the way they prepared their food, they fell below the standard which overseas visitors were entitled tp expect on the charges. He considered the meat in New Zealand was the best in the world, but the way it was cooked in many of the leading hotels made it unappetising. However, the standard of service in New Zealand hotels was good, and the fact that visitors were not pestered for tips by porters and other hotel servants was in welcome contrast to the tactics adopted in many hotels abroad. What, deficiencies there were.in the service he considered were due to the restrictions of the 40-hour week.
