BETTING AT WASHDYKE
At the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Jockey -Club, members adopted a recommendation to the committee in favour of the win-and-place system of betting.. It w.as thought that this would entail structural alterations to the totalisator house if both inside and outside enclosures were to be adequately provided for. but W. F. James, who paid- a visit to the course at the end of last week to'confer with the ground committee, reported that the change, .could. b % e .effected, at small cost. A decision' on' the form of betting to be used at the Spring Meeting will be arrived at this week.
