LARGE TIMBER SHIPMENT
An exceptionally large consignment of timber arrived in Hamilton on Tuesday morning, when 133,500 ft of white ptne was delivered to the New Zealand' Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd. (states a correspondent)-. The timber was' milled in the South Island and was shipped in sawn lengths ■ from Greymouth by the coastal steamer Waimea. It was transferred to the decks of the river steamer Manuwai and to- two barges at.Port Waikato last week: A barge was tied on each side of the Manuwai, which was dwarfed by the size of the loads. All that could be seen of the vessel from a short distance was her funnel. The long tow up the Waikato River commenced on Saturday morning, and with only brief spells at night, was continued until Hamilton was reached on' Tuesday morning. The timber was carted to the New Zealand Dairy Company's timber factory at Frankton on Tuesday and will be used in the manufacture of butter boxes. Dr. H. J. McGill (Dunedin), has been appointed house physician to the West End Hospital for Nervous Diseases,, Regent's Park. |
