NO SIGN OF A MEND
Children's woollies and stockings'can be repaired without showing the least sign of the mend. Here is the correct way to repair them: First "darn across the hole from side to side in the usual way, then chain-stitch, using a crochet hook, up and down the strands. Press well >on the wrong side. The repair should then be nearly invisible. This method is particularly recommended for knitted garments either in silk or wool.
