DUNEDIN, This Day.

The story of how two men secured a free ride from the suburbs into the city in a postal van as the result of one telling the driver he was a policeman escorting a prisoner to the police station was revealed in Court this morning, when Raymond Bramwell Roberts (27) admitted assuming the designation of a constable. .

The police stated that the accused and his companion, who was a naval officer, had been drinking and directed the van driver to take them to the police station. When they arrived the accused ran away, but was caught.

Counsel said that Roberts was trying to ape a man of means with the naval officer.

Roberts was convicted and ordered to come, up for sentence if called upon within 12 months-, conditional upon taking out a prohibition order.
