WESTERLY WEATHER LATER

Special forecast lor Wellington:— Moderate to strong northerly winds, rising to gale force. _. Weather fair and mild, but clouding over tonight and occasional rain probable. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for south-westerly winds at first over the northern portion of the North Island. North-westerlies will prevail otherwise, and these, to the south of New Plymouth and Napier, will be moderate to strong and in places will rise to gale force. Thence northward winds will be light to moderate, but freshening. The weather will be fair to fine at first in most districts, but rain will develop on the West Coast and in the southern portion of the South Island, and will gradually' extend to all districts with a westerly aspect. Temperatures will be mild. An anti-cyclone is now crossing the North Island, its centre being to the north of the Dominion, while at the same time the first of a series of westerly depressions is advancing across the southern Tasman Sea. Light to moderate southerly winds have prevailed over the northern half of the North Island, but elsewhere northerlies have been general. The' latter since last night have freshened somewhat, more especially in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas. A few isolated showers have fallen on the East Coast of the South Island and in the far north, but fair to fine weather has been general otherwise. With a change to northerly winds, temperatures had by this morning become mildeu, la Westland it has already clouded over, rain falling in a few scattered places.Auckland had a moderate to fresh south-westerly wind yesterday. A few light showers fell during the morning, but the weather for ttoe most part was fair. Wellington* weather was fair to fine and pleasant, winds being very light and variable. Hours of bright sunshine totalled 7.9. The night was calm and cold, but by this morning a northerly breeze'was prevailing. Christchurch had a strong southwesterly wind, gusts at times reaching gale force. The morning was cloudy, but the afternoon was sunny, and there was a frost of four degrees last night. At 9 a.m. today the weather was fine with an easterly breeze. Dunedin also had a strong and gusty south-westerly wind. The weather was overcast until 2 p.m., after which it cleared and became calm and fair.
