JUBILEE SOCIAL

PRESBYTERIAN CELEBRATION

Kent Terraqe Presbyterian Hall resounded with praise, mirth, and melody last evening, when every seat was occupied by one of the most enthusiastic audiences that ever assembled in that building. The congregation and their friends had gathered to celebrate the golden jubilee of their church, which was founded 50 years ago. It was, in every particular, an old-time social, and when Mr. Matthew Barr, Mr. J. Bell, and Mesdames Bedford, Bell, and Forbes rose to their feet to say that they were with the congregation in the year 1886 when the church first began, the people cheered them to the echo. „ . . The meeting opened with the singing of the Doxology, after which the Rv. Jamea Baird led in prayer. The present minister, .the Rev. W. Gilmour, took the chair, and in a few appropriate words welcomed all those who had come to join in the very happy festivities of the evening. Apologies from the Rev. Percy Paris, Pastor A. G. Saunden, the Rev. E. J. Orange, Major, Tong of the Salvation Army, Mr. W. F. Stilwell. S.M., and Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M., were, received, and all regretted their inability iq be present on .such an important occasion. A splendid programme of vocal and instrumental music, which Mr. W. Billington and Mr. A. H. Good had arranged, was much enjoyed. : Congratulatory addresses were given by the Revs. N. F. K. Robertshawe, vicar of St. Mark's, O. E. During the evening the Ladies': Guild presented Mrs.W. Gilmour with a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her splendid leadership in work among the women of the congregation. Mr. C. S; Falconer, session clerk* thanked all who had helped to make the occasion a memorable one. The gathering closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" and the pronouncement of the Benediction by the Rev. James Baird.
