COUNCIL BUILDS HOUSES

Mr. Herbert Morrison, M.P., leader of the London County Council, told the International Federation of Building and Woodworkers at Transport House recently that since the war the L.C.C. had built more than 63,000 dwellings. Of these! 52,000 were cottages and 11,000 flats. Up to the war the council had provided nearly 10,000 dwellings. The total number of dwellings provided was nearly 74,000, and these housed a population, of more than 320,000, a number larger than1 the population of many towns. More than. half. the total number of dwellings had been built in the last eight years. . At the end of the last financial year, said Mr. Morrison, the council's operations represented a total capital expenditure of over £48,000,000. The rent roll for that year' was over £2,700,000.
