DUNEDIN, This Day. A computation made locally on the new basis of taxation as against the intricate graduations of the past show that it is the middle class who will be called upon to pay a proportionately higher sum. ■ . • .
Several business men who worked out their returns today found that the taxation would not be as severe as anticipated, particularly as unemployment taxation is not now exempt from income tax. There is a general view that some relief from taxation might have been extended in view of the improving conditions throughout the Dominion and overseas.
