INTOXICATION CHARGE
ACCIDENT WITH CAR

CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. James Robert Pirie', a salesman, was committed for trial today on a charge that while intoxicated in charge of a car in ; Armagh Street on July 12 he caused bodily_harm to Roy Tenterden, Frazer. ' f '
Thcalleged offence arose out of a motor-car being driven with violent impact into a coffee stall at the side of the street at 12.15 a.m. on July 12. Frazer was in the stall and he received a compound fracture of the left leg and severe.'shock. ' His evidence in the case today was taken by the Magistrate.at hospital. Evidence was given as to the accused's state of intoxication by a doctor who examined him after his arrest and by police witnesses.
Witnesses stated that the speed of the car was. from twenty-five to thirtyfive miles an hour, that the speed did not slacken until the car struck the coffee stall, and that the weather was very clear.
All the police witnesses and Dr. Scott, who examined him, said that the accused was certainly intoxicated.
