AMERICA BUYS BARRIERS
There is every prospect of Mr. R. G. i Gray's six-strand barrier, which is used I on many courses in Australia and also at one of the starting posts at Trentham, being installed on a number of the leading racecourses in the United States, says a Sydney report. The starting gates from which the fields are dispatched in America at present are not generally regarded as the most efficient for the work, and for some time there has been an agitation in favour of the Australian methods. .
Mr. Gray has 'received an order "for twelve of his barriers from the New York Jockey Club. They are to, be erected on the Belmont Park course. Mr. Gray will leave Sydney shortly A,to erect the barriers. The widths required to be covered by the barriers have been supplied as extending from 80ft to 150 ft, and leading American racing administrators are anxious to witness the barrier in operation with walk-up and i standing starts, and also with the starts ing official in various positions, such as in front and behind a field of horses ready to be dispatched.
