FORESHORE^ EROSION AT OAMARU.— After forty years in the New Zealand railway service, U.B. 281, a Baldwin locomotive, has been dumped on the foreshore at Oamaru to afford protection, to the municipal gasworks, the safety of which is being threatened ■by the encroachment of the sea. This particular locomotive dreiv the Christchurch-Oamaru express for many years and was running on the Kurow branch line until recently.
