VICEREGAL. The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, and Viscountess Galway : left Auckland by car this morning on their way back to Wellington for the reopening of Parliament next week. They will first visit Cambridge, where they have accepted an invitation to be shown over the new St. Peter's preparatory school. They will be accorded an official welcome at Cambridge, this being their first visit to the town.! Lord and Lady Galway will later go to Rotorua, and will spend the weekend in Hawke's Bay, arriving iri Wellington on Monday. ' They, will be in residence in Wellington for the duration of the session of Parliament'.

The Minister of Justice (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) is to leave for Auckland tonight to attend a civic.farewell to be tendered ,at Onehunga ■ tomorrow to Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P; for Manukau, who leaves by the Niagara on July 21 to represent New Zealand at Geneva. Mi-. Mason will represent the Government at the function.

Mr. W. J. Wakelin, officer in charge of the district office, of- the Labour Department, who has been promoted to the head office as Deputy Chief Inspector, was farewelled at a small ceremony today. Mr. P. H. Kinsman, district employment officer- at the Buckle Street bureau, has been- Appointed to the charge of the district office.

Mr. W. Gilbert, of the Karori Bowling Club, who has been president of the Wellington Bowling Centre, fpr two years, was re-elected president last evening. '.-.Mr. Gilbert is the first "president to hold office for three years in succession since 1912. ' .

The death occurred at Gisborne yesterday of Mr. George Brown Oman, aged 72, licensee of the Masonic Hotel. He had been associated with the hotel trade for nearly forty years, says a Press Association message, and had the unusual record that he had never been the subject of an adverse report by the police. Mr. Oman served for many years on local bodies and was wellknown in Turf circles, serving a lengthy period as steward of the local clubs. ' ; ;::■ . -.
