RUGBY LEAGUE
BOARD OF CONTROL
The board of control of the Wellington Rugby League met last1 evening, those present being Messrs. V. M. Simpson (chairman), G. O'Leary, E Elliott, C. Buckland, L. O. Berseman, R. V. Jones, F. Wisnesky, W: Holland, G. Harkness, and W. P. dimming; It was decided to play the Possibles v. Probables match next Saturday, the team to represent Wellington against, the Englishmen on July 29, to be selected after the match.
The competition for .thei Board of Control Cup, it was agreed, would be commenced on July 25, as also would the reserve grade competition for the Buckland Cup. , The secretary was instructed to write to the Hawke's Bay and Canterbury Leagues with the view t'o a visit by a Wellington team. An invitation had been extended to the West Coast League for a team to be sent to Wellington before the close of the season. . ■
From information received it was regarded as practically certain that a New Zealand League team would tour Australia next season.
Mr. R. Jones, a member, of the board, made the generous offer of a cup for competition amongst the. clubs, the board to determine the fixtures. Mr. Jones was warmly thanked.
TRIAL MATCH
The following League teams have been selected for next Saturday's trial:—
Possibles.—H. Lilburne, E. Gladding, L. Werson, C. McNeill, S. T. Atkins, A. O'Connor, J. Connor, W. Large, H. Todd, C. Berry, J. Coates, R. Moisley McLellan.
Probables.—Spencer, Mailman, Timmins, Scorringe, Jamieson, Coombes, N. Atkins, Thorpe, Burns, Simons, Gardner, Pilcher, Rennie. ;
Emergencies for both teams: 'Mason, King, Spencer, J. O'Connor, Ross, Swanburg, and Kneyl. ':
