LOAN FOR IMPROVEMENTS
A letter from the Local Government Loans Board, sanctioning a poll of ratepayers on a proposal to raise a lo:in of £<§500 for improvements to the £oresho/e and baths, was received at the meeting of the Petone Borough Council last evening The Mayor (Mr. A. Scholefield) said that if amalgamation was carried the method of raising the money and the masnitude of the work would ha»e to be considered. Even if Petone was declared a separate rating area, the loan should be spread over Lower Hutt and Petone. because Lower Huf.l would benefit by the work. If am a!-' eamation in any form was turned down the Petone Council should go ahead with the scheme immediately The limit for the scheme to come forward was five years.
On the motion of Councillor D. M. Dickson, it was decided to hold the matter in abeyance.
