EXCITING FENCING
MATCHES WITH MASTERTON
The fencing enthusiasts who gathered at Miss Zena Clarke's gymnasium last evening saw some most exciting and keenly contested women's foil matches. The occasion was the crossing of blades between ladies'. teams from the Masterton Fencing Club and the Wellington Swords Club. This was the first occasion on which the Wairarapa ladies had been on the boards in public and it is to their credit that they beat the local fencers .by C matches to' 3. The fencers were:— . Masterton.—Misses Pat Jordon, Jocclyn Betts, and Betty Brown." Wellington.—Mrs.C. E.Beeby, Miss Barbara Gillespie, and Miss L Turn_bull. Referee, Miss Z. Clarke.. . Among those present were Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Beeby, Mrs. X; Hunter-1 Clarke. Misses Jocelyn Hollis, Joan Hollis, F. Latham, Wallace,." Arthur, Urquhart, and Messrs. G.. R...Jackson and J. Whitton (Masterton), T. Wilson, Stewart, C. Morris, J. Standish, Mirams, Fearnley, Frederick, G.. Hai--court, and Messenger.
