BROWN SHIELD
CHALLENGE ENTERED
Corresponding to the Chatham Cup competition among the major Association football provinces of New Zealand is the contest for the Brown Shield among the minor associations of the North Island. The shield is at present held by North Auckland, to whom the New Zealand Football Association recently addressed a suggestion that the shield should be returned to the council of the association, as the game was temporarily at a standstill in the north. .
At last night's meeting of the council a letter was received from Mr. J. Mcllroy, honorary secretary of the North Auckland association, stating that the shield had taken a lotVgf time and money to win, and that the association did not like the idea of parting with it so easily. The time to return the [shield would be when they were chal- [ lenged and did not play, but although they had no competition there at present, they could still field a repre^ sentative team if it came to a pinch.
The South Auckland association, through its honorary secretary (Mr. F. W. Mead), sent in a challenge for the shield, and it was decided to forward it to North Auckland and ask for a suitable date for the game.
Wanganui, in a letter about other business, .mentioned that it was interested in the Brown Shield.
