BETTER TONE IN LONDON

Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated July 13:—The auctions continue fairly animated and the market lias developed a better tone since the opening. Greasy crossbreds are quoted id to Jd per 1b dearer, especially when bought for Russia. Slipe wools generally are in large supply and are easier since the opening. The following prices are current:—

Merino: Super 16d to 17d per Ib, average 13jd to 14Jd. Fine halfbred: Super 56/58's 13Jd to 14Jd, average 12Jd to 13Jd. Medium halfbred: Super, 50/56's, IOJd to lljd; average, 9Jd to lOjd. Extra fine crossbred: Super, 48/50's, 9d to 93d; average, BJd to 9Jd. Fine crossbred: Super, 46/48's, BJd to 9d; average, B]d to 81d. medium crossbred: Super. 44/46's, BJd to 9d; average, 83d to BJd. Coarse, crossbred: Super, 40/44's, BJd to BJd; average, BJd to Bid. Low crossbred: Super, 36/40's, Bid to 83d; average, BJd to Bid. Pieces, 7Jd to 8d; bellies, 6£d to 7d; locks, s£d to 6d. Dalgety and Company, Limited, London, July 31, report: Wool sales continue; brisk competition, hardening tendency. As compared with closing rates last series: Good greasy merino and good scoured merino, unchanged; medium greasy merino, 5 per cent, lower; inferior greasy merino, 5 per cent.; medium scoured merino, 5 per cent.; inferior scoured merino, 5 per cent.; fine greasy crossbred, 5 per cent., all lower; medium and coarse crossbred are unchanged to rather dearer.
