OBITUARY
EARL OF YARBOROUGH

LONDON, July 12. The death has occurred of the Earl of Yarborough.
The Earl of Yarborough, who wasj born in 1859, came of an old Whig\| family. He belonged to 'the Liberal Party up to 1886, when he formally separated from it. Since then he had been a supporter of the Conservative Party. He was educated at Eton arid Trinity College, Cambridge, where he took his M.A. He was Captain of the Hon. Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms from 1890 to 1892. He owned about 50,000 acres in North Lincolnshire and a pier ture gallery, containing valuable works by well-known artists. In 1935 he was made a Knight of the Garter. The well-known card term"is said to have! originated in a standing wager by an Earl of Yarborough with anyone at the "card tables against the holding of such a hand.
