FOOTBALL ON CARPET
MOSCOW, July 11
One of the most extraordinary Association football matches in history was played in connection with celebrations on Constitution-Day in the Red Square, which was covered by a green onepiec* carpet, properly marked out and surrounded by a synthetic cinder track on which relay races were run.
The teams played Association football in the presence of M. Stalin and M. Molotov and other notables who watched a parade of 70,000 athletes representing all sports. Swimmers crawlstroked across the square in a portable tank. ...
