UNITED DEFEATED

Old Boys won a decisive victory over United when they played them at Kilbirnie on Saturday. The United team again had difficulty in fielding a full team, and thirteen men had to do the work of fifteen. The first spell was very ragged and uninteresting. United lacked finish, while Old Boys spoilt many a fine scoring, movement by small infringements. Old Boys put up a lead of six points in this spell from two unconverted tries, the first coming when O'Loughlin, joining in a back movement, sold a perfect dummy, and scored well out. C. Hollis got the other by a fine, run down the line.

The spectators watched better Rugby in the second spell. United finding that they obtained better results by keeping the ball at their toes as their backs could not compete with the speedier Old Boys' backs. But a freekick in a handy position saw Stevenson add three points to their score. Improved handling in this spell put the Old Boys' team in many handy scoring positions, which Campbell, Sando, K. Sadler, and Morris took avail of by crossing the Unitpd line, each getting one try respectively. O'Loughlin converted three of the four tries and also kicked a penalty. The last fifteen minutes saw the United team doing its best to rally, but the opposition was too strong, and put an early stop to any dangerous movement.
