LEADERS PREVAIL

Although St. Patrick's College Old Boys played well and at times controlled the run of the play, in the final test they-were unable to. measure to the standard of Wellington College Old Boys, who won comfortably by 26 points to 14. The match was played before a good attendance at Kelburn Park. The teams were:— Wellington College Old Boys.—R. Wright; Burns, Binning, Dustin; G. Reynolds, Baldwin; Sadler; Bydder, M. Wright, Harper, Claridge, J. Reynolds, Amies, Souness, Lamason. St. Patrick's College Old Boys.—X. O Connor; Wareham, P. O'Connor, Twohill; Black, McDermott; Marshall; Hart E. O'Connor, Hogan, Smith, Robinson, Dennehy, Todd, McCarthy. From the kick-off by St. Pat's Claridge threw a long pass to Sadler and as the movement continued Dustin kicked through and followed to score in the corner. Lamason goaled. The adyantage was short lived, St. Pat's retaliating for Marshall to set his men off. P. O'Connor cut through and cross-kicked and Wareham, gathering in, raced, over for a fine try. K. O'Connor failed with the kick. Play settled down for some time, Black missing one great opportunity by kicking, but St. Pats continued to hold the advantage until Burns received. He galloped through for Lamason to goal. Then more up-and-down play followed until Lamason made the half-time score 13 to 3 in favour of Old Boys by a penalty goal.

Black went over soon after the start of the second spell, but he was recalled for a forward pass. McDermott re^ tired with an injury, Wright replacing him. As the result of a penalty soon after Binning had made a run to the line, Lamason increased Old Boys' score with a fine kick, and when R. Wright ran through from halfrway, Claridge was there to complete the movement, Lamason again converting. In reply, St. Pat's worked hard and Wareham scored his second try from a smart dash. K. O'Connor missed the kick, but when another rush the length of the field ended in P. O'Connor scoring, K. O'Connor converted, and he was successful a little later with a penalty. Just before the end Baldwin cut through sharply for a try and Lamason completed a good performance by goaling. Wellington College Old Boys 26, St. Patrick's College Old Boys 14.

Mr. J. O. Wilson was the referee.
