KEEN PLAY IN SENIOR A GRADE

POSITIONS OF LEADING TEAMS UNCHANGED

Matches in the Wellington Rugby Union's senior A grade competition^ on Saturday afternoon resulted generally as was expected, with Eastbourne and Hutt providing the most exciting game. In spite of the counter attractions the matches attracted strong followings and the run of .play in most cases aroused a good deal of enthusiasm. For a considerable part of the main match at Athletic Park Poneke found it difficult to master Marist ■ Bros. Old Boys, but eventually Poneke gained the upper hand and won decisively. Wellington College Old Boys were too good for St. Patrick's College Old Boys, though a plentiful supply of points in this match, played on Kelburn Park, did not go the one way. As was expected, Johnsonville (playing at home) gave Athletic a hard game, though the town team won well. .-* Eastbourne and Hutt gave spectators at'the Hutt Recreation ■ Ground any amount of excitement, Eastbourne winning by the narrow margin of two points. Petone's improved form was maintained in the recording of a win over Wellington. In tlie second division Athletic and Wellington College Old Boys continued on their winning way. The leadership in the first division is still held by Wellington College Old Boys by a point from Athletic, with Poneke only ■••.; another point-away in third place. Top position in the second division is shared by Athletic and Wellington College Old' Boys, who have a clear lead of four points. ' ■ RESULTS AT A GLANCE.
