THE FINAL DAY AT TRENTHAM
INVESTMENTS AMOUNT TO NEARLY £60,000
(By "Rangatira.")
.success exceeding highest expectations was experienced Tor the final day of the Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting at frentham on Saturday. There was one of the largest crowds on the course for six or seven years, and it was not till an hour and a half'after-.the racing had concluded that the final cars were able to leave the paddocks. The traffic was very congested, but despite the time that it took to move it was-very capably handled. The day s totalisator turnover of £59,795 10s was- an increase of £14,132 10s on the .final day "last year, and it was. the largest sum invested at a Wellington Winter Meeting since the final day in 1928. The total of the three days, £133,058 10s, was an increase of £23,770 on last year's figures and was1 the best since 1930. The racing was again of a very high standard. The day was ideal for winter racing, fine and mild, and the track was improved on the two earlier days. The field for the Winter Hurdles, which was won by Travelling Agent, was a little disappointing numerically, nevertheless it-attracted keen speculation. Billy Boy recorded a popular victory in the July Steeples, and Epris put up a fine performance in winning the Winter Oats Handicap.
