PROBABLE BEFORE MONDAY

Special forecast for Wellington:— Lijrht northerly Minds freshening gradually, but a southerly change probable before Monday.

The general forecast issued at noon today for the Dominion as a whole 3s for north-easterly to northerly winds, light to moderate, but freshening somewhat and a change to southerlies setting in shortly in the far south and becoming general within 24 to 36 hours. Cloudy to , overcast weather is to be expected in the western and southern portions of the South Island, with showers or misty rain in many places; elsewhere fine weather at first, but cloud and mist increasing and scattered rain developing gradually. Temperatures will be mild at first, with a cold change later. Under the influence of an intense anticyclone, which has been covering the Dominion, the weather has been fine and pleasant almost generally. Since last night, however, some isolated light, falls of rain have occurred on the West Coast of the South Island, and Wanganui reported showers this morning. Winds have been light and variable, but northerlies have predominated frpm Cook Strait southwards and have freshened somewhat in Foveaux Strait. At 0 a.m. today a moderate north-westerly gale was blowing at Puysegur Point Barometers are falling slowly, in the south with the advance of a shallow depression across the Tasman Sea. There has been a continuance of fine weather in Auckland, but early morning fogs have occurred there. The wind was light and variable yesterday, and at 9 a.m.- today conditions were calm and foggy.

The weather has remained flne in Wellington. What little wind there has been .hjis been from the north. The sunshine yesterday amounted to 7.2 hours.

Christchurch has experienced fine weather with a gentle north-easterly breeze. A fog of lldeg. was registered there last night.

The weather was also fine and bright yesterday in Dunedin, with a gentle northerly breeze. This morning the weather there was cloudy.
