The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, will leave on Monday for Blenheim and Westport, to attend functions in ■ connection with the reopemng of the construction on abandoned railway lines. He will be accompanied by the Minister of Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb), who is the member for Buller.

The Hon. P.-Fraser, Minister of Education and Health, will leave for Dunedin this evening. He expects to be away from Wellington for about" a week. .". ■ ■

Cabled- advice, has. been received from England that Mr. William T. McFaayen, son of Mr. A. McFadyen principal of the Memorial Technical College, at Petone, has had conferred on him the degree of Doctor of Philosophy 'of Leeds University. Dr. McFadyen gained his M.Sc. in Chemistry with honours at Otago University, He subsequently attended Victoria; University- College - for two years; taking a post-graduate course. For~ the last twenty months he has been taking a post-graduate course in chemistry at the University of Leeds. Dr. McFadyen, who is also an associate of- the Institute of Chemistry, has been appointed to the position of re^ search chemist' with the Trinidad Leasehold, Ltd. This company has control of the famous lake of. pitch, and also of the newly oilfields. Dr. McFadyen commences his duties in Trinidad at the beginning of August. '..■-.-

The Rev. John Paterspn, M.A., of St. Paul's Church, .Wanganui,; has accepted a call to Stratford and expects to take up his new. charge on August 14. Since his appointment to St. Paul's in June, 1924, Mr. Patersdn has played a full part in the civic, and social life of'Wanganui, and his kindly disposition and scholarly attainments have won him many friends. .
