COLD WEATHER.
CHANGEABLE AND SHOWERY
Special forecast for Wellington:—
Light to moderate but freshening westerly winds, backing to the south again tonight. Weather fair at first, but showers again probable when the wind changes to the south.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for moderate to strong southerly winds to the north.of Kawhia and Napier. Elsewhere moderate southwesterlies to westerlies will predominate, but a fresh change to southerhes will advance shortly from the south. The weather will be cold and changeable with passing showers at times in most districts, although in eastern parts it should be mainly fair. With the eastward movement of yesterday's depression, south-westerly winds during the night extended over the whole of the Dominion. Ram which had been confined to western areas became fairly general, hail iallfng in parts of the coastal area in the South Island and snow onjnany of the ranges. The southerly, although strong and squally, was not a particularly severe one, and by this morning conditions had greatly improved except in the North Auckland, Gisborne, and far southern areas. Owing to the advance of a secondary depression on to the southern part of New Zealand winds have again changed to the north in the southern portion of the South Island and have become strong about Foveaux Strait. -..,., Auckland had a moderate to fresh westerly wind yesterday. The mornmg was fine, but the afternoon was showery and some fairly heavy ram fell during the night when the wind urned to the south-west TheiwntoU up to 9 a.m. today had totalled 40 points, but at that hour it was still weather yesterday was brilliantly fine with 8.3 hours of bright sunshine A moderate to strong northwesterly wind prevailed, but about 8?m a southerly change took: ptoe and rain subsequently fell. At Kelburn 43 points were recorded, but Lower HStt escaped with only five P °Ch?istchurch had a fine and sunny mSning, but the afternoon, became ne the afternoon and this freshened. 9?m toly the weather was fan- with [ I a fresh westerly wind.
