HUTT POWER BOARD

In the absence of Mr. J. J. Maher, Mr R. W. Bothamley presided at the meeting of the Hutt Valley Electrie Power Board yesterday afternoon. The following comparisons of power sales during April and May were given by the engineer and general manager (Mr. E. F. Hollands), the figures for the two months in 1935 being in parentheses:—Domestic lighting, £'6631 10s 10d (£6226 3s Id); commercial lighting, £2143 4s 4d (£1852 79 7d); heating and cooking, £5727 0s 2d (£4877 3s Id); water heating. £1936 15s 4d (£1730 4s); power, £2634 17s lid (£lßl3 16s 10d); totals (less discounts), £16,124 11s 6d (£14,012 11s 2d). During the period since May 18, 48 new consumers were connected, -together with additions to existing installations to the total of 76. The totals to May 31 were as follows:—Number of consumers, 12,341; number of ranges, 2091; number of water heaters connected, 1758; connected load m kilowatts, 48,268. It was reported that the damage caused by the storm early in May had now been repaired. Mr. Hollands said that the full effect of the storm would not be known until the- next storm came along.

Thirty brass helmets' are preserved at the headquarters of the London Fire Brigade, in memory of their owner* who died doing their duty.
