KHANDALLAH DISTRICT

At the last monthly meeting of the Khandallah Progressive Association, over which presided Mr. M. S. Galloway, satisfaction was expressed at the receipt of informatip/i that a Post Office would be opened before the end of the current month in separate premises and under a postmistress, with a telegraph messenger in attendance. Other improvements in postal facilities were also discussed. l

Improved library facilities were another matter on the agenda paper and the chief librarian of the city libraries is to be interviewed on the matter.

Regarding school facilities for people on the eastern side of the district, the executive, it was stated, had inspected jthe sites, and later on a small deputation had met the members of the city ward of the Education Board, a site Deing determined, which the latter would recommend to the board as being suitable for acquirement at an early date.

The chairman reported that he had discussed the matter of the improvement of Cashmere Park with the Director of Parks and Reserves, and from that ■ conversation he hoped that at an early date necessary excavation and laying-out of the area would be taken in hand and completed.

A letter was received from the secretary of the Khandallah School Committee in reference to the erection of an overhead bridge over the railway line fpr children journeying from the eastern side of the district to the school, which was situated on the western side of the railway. Whilst appreciating the importance of this, it was decided that owing to the proposed changes to be made in the railway service and track in future, the time was inopportune to bring the matter before the authorities, but it would not "be lost sight of.

It was decided again to draw the attention of the City Council to the lowering of Jubilee Road, thereby providing better access from Te Kainga to the business area of Khandallah. Representations are also to be made to the City Engineer's Department for improvement of the surfacing of Simla Crescent and Simla Avenue.
