FLYING AT 95
AN OTAGO PIONEER (By Telegraph) (Special to the "Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. The oldest passenger to patronise the air service between Dunedin and Blenheim since its inauguration left yesterday in the Kotuku for Palmerston North. He is Mr. William Ayson, of Waikaka, who is 95 years of age. Mr. Ayson arrived in Otago by the Royal Albert in 1853, five year safter the Philip Laing landed the first settlers in this city, and he later proceeded to Gabriel's Gully when the gold rush took place. During the recent anniversary celebrations at Lawrence in connection with the finding of gold in the gully Mr. Ayson took a prominent part in the proceedings. Yesterday morning he stated that he had never been alongside an aeroplane but he had seen them in the air. He had seen so many changes in transport in this country during the last eighty-odd years that he had no fears concerning flying.
