THE AUCKLAND TROTS

FORM FOR TOMORROW

(Spocial to the "Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The fields for the opening day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Winter Meeting tomorrow are all of good size and" strength, and the outlook in regard to the maiden and intermediate events is strongei than for some years past. The bracketed pair. King's Warrior and Bonny Azure, will be firm favourites for the Adams Memorial Cup, with De Soto an interesting Canter' bury invader. The track will be soft. Bctfing will be under the win-and-place system. The following horses are in likely form:—

Winter Handicap.—Franz Derby, Nelspcar, and Worthy Princess. Mangcre Handicap.—Bedford, Claudelands, and Sir Frank-Hori Bingen bracket. Hobson Handicap.—General Sarsfield, Tryment, and Star Pronto. Adams Memorial Cup.—King's War-rior-Bonny Azure bracket and De Soto. Stewards Handicap.—Waikato PrincePolly Pan bracket and Arapai. Marconi Handicap. — Winaway, Nervie's Last, and Silk Cord. Cornwall Handicap.—Bonny AzureKing's Warrior bracket and TravisWee Machine bracket. The card is:—

WELL-PERFORMED MARE Winaway, who is being selected as one of the best chances in the useful field for the Marconi Handicap ap Auckland tomorrow, Struck a good winning patch in April.. She finished third to Treasure Bond and Bolinda King over a mile and a half at Hawera, and was successful at ■ her next two starts at the same meeting. She won the Kaponga Handicap, 1* miles, in 3min 23sec, and the Stewards' Handicap, li miles, in 2min 48sec from 36.yards. TIME BETWEEN RACES When Mr. H. F. Nlcoll at last year's trotting conference introduced a remit limiting the interval between races to 35 minutes, he had in mind the interests of the public, who expect to have their entertainment provided without undue waste of time.

It can be said that a number of clubs have not made a serious attempt to observe the rule, and long delays have irritated racegoers, says the "Press." On the other hand, several clubs have proved that the rule is workable, and have kept their programmes running to the advertised times.

At the coming conference, the Auckland and Gore Trotting Clubs will seek to have the time limit between races extended to 40 minutes. Mr. Nicoll will not be present to offer his very strong objection to the alteration, and it is quite possible the remit will have the support of many clubs. Whatever the difficulties that have arisen through the shorter intervals, it can be said the rule has brightened up racing, and it has spurred officers of clubs and totalisator proprietors to observe some degree of punctuality. The 40 minutes interval would not be too long if the totalisators were shut promptly at the advertised time, but with some clubs there will still be the usual delays. At present no penalty is provided for a breach of the rules, and certain clubs have taken advantage of this, while others have acted up to the spirit of the rule with satisfaction to all.

TROTTING BREVITIES Nelspcar is one of the finest-bred trotters in the country, and although she may never quite live up to her pedigree, she has the ability to win a race or two. When the barriers were released for the Longbeach Handicap at Ashburtpn, Mother's Boy remembered the tuition he has received with the hopples on, and he insisted on pacing instead of trotting. General Sarsfield has been a good winner for C. Moran, and was second to Tryment over a mile and a half in heavy going at his last start. His previous two outings were successful, and he won very easily both times.

Although the public had little in the way of form to guide them in their investments on the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, the most spirited betting of the Ashburton Meeting was on this race. The sum of £4538 30s was invested on the 11 chances, and in the Ashburton Handicap only £2617 was handled.

Mr. D. Brideson has sold his two-year-old trotter by Surprise Journey from the American-bred mare by Guy Great from Lady Logan to a patron of B. J. Mackle's Kaikoura stable. The youngster was for a time under G. Paton's care at Epsom, but was > act seriously tested. He is a fine-looking horse and should do well in the hands of Mackle, who has had much success with straightrout trotterg.

Parisienne, winner of the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, is an orphan foal. Yenot, the dam, died when the filly was a few weeks old, and Parisienne was hand-reared by Miss N. Edwards at Otahuhu. Parisienne - s half-sister, by Worthy Bond, the unraced Margaret Bond, was due to arrive at Epsom today.to go into L. Cavalier's stable. She was bred at Mardella Stud Farm.
