PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Mayor (Mr. A. Scholefield) presided at the meeting of the Petone Borough Council last evening. An invitation from the Petone Memorial Technical College for the council to visit the evening classes was accepted. The visit will be paid on Permission was given to the Lower Hutt Municipal Silver Band to give musical programmes on the Petone Beach and in the borough reserves on convenient occasions, and to take up a collection. _ , The secretary of the Taita Cemetery Board wrote stating that Mr. J. W. McEwan had resigned from the trustees. It was decided to write thanking him for his services. Mr. McEwan's successor will be elected at a later meeting of the council. . The borough engineer (Mr. U .u Jackson) stated that during May permits for buildings to the value of £4415 were issued. . Mr G. A. Booth, borough inspector, notified that during May 494 drivers licences were issued. Ten new drivers were tested and certificates issued. The amounts paid in annual licences were as follows: —Drivers, £123 10s dog fees, £51 ss; miscellaneous, £39 Js ba. In the report of the works committee it was stated that no recommendation could be made to remove the centre street lights until more informstion was received on the subject iiom the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board.
