VICTORIA LEAGUE
A PLEASANT MEETING
Business and pleasure were delightfully combined at the monthly committee meeting of the. Victoria League, when opportunity was taken to extend a welcome to Lady Buclcleton (president) and her daughter, Miss Jean Buckleton, on their return from England.' „ Mrs. Doctor (deputy president) expressed the pleasure of the league at her return, and presented Lady Buckleton with a posy of berries and autumn
leaves. . In reply Lady Buckleton thanked Mrs. Doctor and the committee fpr their work during her absence, and said how pleased she was to be back again. In London she had " met Miss Gertrude Drayton, C.8.E., who is anticipating with the keenest pleasure her tour of Australia and New Zealand. As general secretary at London headquarters, she meets a great number of visitors to England, and also corresponds with Victoria League workers all over the world, some of whom she hopes to meet in person. Morning tea was served, and arrangements were completed for the bridge evening to be held in July. Miss Tiora Meadows (secretary to the young people's branch) gave a most encouraging report of their activities. The membership is steadily increasing, and they have held most successful bridge and play-reading evenings. A dance will be held jn the Kelburn Kiosk near the end of June.
Mrs. Corliss moved a vote of thanks to Mrs. Doctor for her efficient and untiring work as deputy president. This was carried with acclamation.
Mrs. Charlesworth was elected a member of the committee, and the names of two new members were received.
