EGG EXPORT TRADE
Preparations are already being made by the Canterbury Egg Export Committee for the coming season's operations. Some conception of the magnitude of the task ahead can be gauged from the fact that last year 2,295,360 eggs were exported from Canterbury alone. Approximately the same number of eggs will be sent overseas this year. Last year the-first shipment left New Zealand at the beginning of September, and it is anticipated that a similar programme will be adhered to this year. The following table illustrates the growth of the export trade in Canterbury since 1932: — Eggs. Year. in dozens. 1932 48,000 1933 145,000 3934 156,000 1935 191-000 Canterbury leads New Zealand in the exoort of eggs, with Otago second, and Auckland third. The figures (in dozens) for last year's exports are: Canterbury. 191,000; Otago, 82,440; Auckland, 78,300; Wellington, 5730.
PRICE OF EGGS. Eggs were quoted on the Wellington wholesale market today at 2s to 2s Id a dozen, first grade. Home consumption of Welsh tinplatc expccted to reach a record figure this year For the past six months bookings totalled 200,000 boxes weekly. Exports are also reported as going up.
