LOVELOCK'S EASY WIN

RECORD IN 3-MILE EVENT

LONDON, June 13. In an inter-club contest for the Kinnaird trophy at the White City, J. E. Lovelock, representing the Achilles Club, won the three miles in 14 minutes 20 1-5 seconds, a record iot the contest, beating Hadland (Polytechnic) by. 12 yards. The New Zealander ran easily with the leaders throughtout the race, sprinted over the final 100 yards, and won amid enthusiasm. * A. K. G. Brown won the 100 yards in 9.9 seconds, beating A. W. Sweeney, British and Empire Games champion, by inches. Brown won the quartermile in 48.3 seconds, a record for the contest, beating- G. L. Rampling, British record holder, by a yard.

A recent London cable stated that Lovelock, in view of the fact that New Zealand entered him for the 5000 metres at the Olympic Games, was paying more attention to distance running.

About ten days ago, when assisting Cambridge University against the Amateur Athletic Association, Brown, a probable member of the British Olympic team, won the 100 yards in 9 7-10 sec, equalling the British record.
