FRENCH CLUB.
The Cercle Francais held its fortnightly reunion in the Pioneer Club's reception-room recently, Mr. W. F. C. Ballam presiding. The programme was in the charge of Dr. A. C. Keys. "Canzonetta" from string quartet in E Flat (Mendelssohn) and "Adagio," adapted from violin sonata (Corelli) were rendered by Miss Olga Burton and Mr. Graeme Ayson (violins), Dr. Keys (viola), and Mr. Donald Woodward ('cello). Madame E. Finlayson then gave a reading of the amusing "Oraison Funebre de Madame Bourgeois." Dr. Keys gave a talk on Alfred de Musset, with special reference to his piece, "II fant gn'une porte soit ouverte on femiee." The lecturette introduced most happily the play itself, in which the characters were taken by Madame Finlayson (the Marquise) and Dr. Keys (the Comte). The soiree concluded with supper and "La Marseillaise." Madame Bendall directed the Conversation Class and Miss Coralie Smythson received the guests.
