ERIN'S MELODIES

IRISH NATIONAL CLUB

The ballads and deeds of old Ireland were sung and re-enacted at the third annual concert of the National Irish Club held in St. Francis Hat! last evening. The concert, which had been postponed from Easter Monday, was entitled "A Night in the Land of Song and the performances given were of such a standard as to fully justify this title. The audience was enlivened at the start by the rousing strains of Irish airs played by the boys of the Sr. Bernard Pipe Band, who later performed the "Rakes of Mallow." The Marist Boys' Choir followed with numerous airs beloved of the Irish and pleased all with their artistry. Miss Hazel Martin's pupils performed two lively Irish reels which were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. The other artists included Mr. J. Tohill (tenor), "Where the River Shannon Flows" and the Irish Hornpipe; Mrs. A. McKay, "Kerry Dance ; Mr. K. Rigby (tenor), ''Old Irish Mother of Mine"; Mr. Ben OBrien I (tenor), "For the Green"; Miss E. Gourtenay (soprano), "The Last Rose of Summer"; Mr. Hogan (tenor), "Snowy-breasted Pearl"; Placidus O'Dufly (recitation),."lreland's Queen ; Miss E. Higgins (soprano), "Fairy Tales of Ireland"; Master Jack Tracey (recitation), "Cows"; Miss M. O'Bnan (contralto), "The Irish Emigrant"; Master Michael McKeefy, "Here's a Toast to Erin"; Miss M. Moynihan (recitation), "The Sacred Fire"; Mrs. T. Tracy (contralto), "Danny Boy." The accompanists were. Mrs. Tillyard, Mrs. Walshe, Miss M. Keegan, and Miss N. Glavin.

At the conclusion Mr. F. O'Sullivan thanked all those who had contributed to making the, concert a success. Supper was afterwards served to the artists, friends, and officers of the club.
