SENATORS STARTLED STOCKINGS THROWN FROM GALLERIES SUFFRAGETTES AGAIN United Tress Association—By Electric Xeligraph—Copyright. (Received June 3, 10.15 a.m.) PARIS, June 2. Young suffragettes startled elderly Senator, by storming the Congress building in the course of the opening session, and throwing stockings from the galleries on the legislators' heads during the President's speech. The stockings bore ribbons inscribed "Even when we have a right to vote your socks will be mended." The Senate is traditionally opposed to giving the suffrage to .women, despite the Chamber of Deputies having previously voted" in its favour.
When the Chamber of Deputies was convened on June 1 a number of suffragettes sold bouquets to deputies bearing cards with the words "Best wishes to the new Legislature, but don't forget us." Attendants removed banners which were flung from th» galleries inscribed "Votes for women."
