FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

REINSTATEMENT Of

MEMBERS

The reinstatement of friendly society members, who have fallen out of their respective orders through unemployment, at the same rate of contribution as that which they were paying when they ceased to be members was discussed by the Dominion Council of Friendly Societies yesterday. The proposal was made that members should be allowed to repay the amount owing during their lifetimes. The Government Actuary, Mr. C. Gostelow, said societies wishing to carry out that proposal would have to alter their rules. It could only be done soundly by a society j that had sufficient capital. People were in difficulty through other causes than unemployment, and societies could not do it for everybody. A report by Mr, Gostelow on the proposal is to be sent to the societies. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. G. F. Rudkin; vicepresidents, Messrs. W. G. Gregory and S. McNab; secretary-treasurer. Mr. A. G. Shrimpton; associate secretary, Mr. H. S. M. Quigley. The officers were installed by Mr. J. Macfle, Dun-1 edin, a past president. |
